Good luck to PIVOT DUBLIN!
Cities that value and apply good design in the way they think, plan and act are better cities - that’s the thinking behind Pivot Dublin’s bid for World Design Capital 2014.
The WDC is a biennial designation awarded on foot of a competition held by The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID). Torino and Seoul are both past winners and in 2012 Helsinki will become the third city to hold the title.
Next Tuesday, June 21st, the shortlist for 2014 will be announced. Over 50 cities have shown an interest in the designation, so competition is tough. But PIVOT have mounted a strong bid covering all aspects of the vibrant design scene in the capital ‘from urban regeneration to the strength of the craft sector, the vibrant street culture to the booming software and games design industries.’
The winning city will host a programme of events over the course of the year. The award is not a ‘status’ designator but a recognition of innovative cities that have most effectively and creatively used design as a tool for social, cultural and economic progress.
So cross your fingers, and come on Dublin!
