Open Innovation Event, 13th June
Jointly Dublinked, Dublin City Council & Innovation Dublin are hosting an event to explore the area of ‘Starting Up with Open Innovation’. This event will give attendees the opportunity to hear from industry experts in the field of Open Innovation, to hear about the current trends, barriers and future challenges to developing & implementing Open Innovation strategies. The format of the event will enable participants to network and explore the Business Model Canvas technique.
Today, in many industries, the logic that supports an internally oriented, centralised approach to research and development (R&D) has become obsolete. Useful knowledge has become widespread and ideas must be used with alacrity. Such factors create a new logic of open innovation that embraces external ideas and knowledge in conjunction with internal R&D.
“Open innovation is the use of purposive inflows and outflows of knowledge to accelerate internal innovation, and expand the markets for external use of innovation, respectively. [This paradigm] assumes that firms can and should use external ideas as well as internal ideas, and internal and external paths to market, as they look to advance their technology.” Henry Chesbrough, Open Innovation: Researching a New Paradigm (2006)
